It's Thursday, March 17th, Happy St. Patrick’s day! Running a little late today, But didn’t want to miss the chance to wish Cartoonist/ Illustrator Patrick McDonnell, a very Happy Birthday!!!
Of Course you know "Patrick McDonnell is the creator of the animal-friendly comic strip MUTTS, which has received numerous awards internationally, both for comic strip excellence and for its themes of animal protection. Charles Schulz called it “one of the best comics strips of all time.” Prior to creating MUTTS, Patrick was a freelance magazine illustrator for multiple publications, including the Russell Baker “Observer” column for The New York Times Sunday Magazine." "He is also the author of , multiple children's picture books including: Just Like Heaven, Hug Time, South, Wag!, and The Gift of Nothing, and he is the creator of "Me . . . Jane", a Caldecott Honor Book and a New York Times bestselling picture book biography of Dr. Jane Goodall. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, Karen, their formerly feral cat, Not Ootie; and their adopted terrier, Amelie"
This is a portrait that we made of Patrick with his lovely "Mutt" Earl in their New Jersey studio from a few years back, photographed for the first "Artist Within" book. Of course back then Earl had final approval on all the "Mutts Strips"
