Joe mentioned that "The Thing" had "always been his most favorite character to draw". During his legendary career Joe won 2 Alley Awards as the comic industries best inker in 1967 & 1968, The Irving Forbush Award for Favorite Inker in 1974, an Inkpot Award at the 1995 San Diego Comic Con, and most recently 2 Inkwell Awards in 2008 (one the Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame Award) named in his honor. On one of our first trips back east, we had the chance to visit and make this portrait of Joe in his studio, for "The Artist Within" portrait project. We had the best time!

"Sharon Sampsel & Greg Preston graduated from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and had the good luck to pick Las Vegas as the up and coming place in which to open their studio. Riding the wave in as Las Vegas came into its own in the last 30 years has been a blast for these two partners. Although they concentrate mostly on Resort and Casino work, Being in a town like Las Vegas gives them the opportunity to shoot just about everything, which is fine with them."
